The Winner Is… (My Heisman Selection)
November 28, 2007
The Heisman Trophy no longer holds the prestige it used to – at least not in my eyes.
It first seemed suspect to me when Bo Jackson of Auburn was handed the trophy over Iowa QB Chuck Long in 1985. And when, a decade ago, ESPN campaigned for Michigan DB Charles Woodson over the clearly deserving Peyton Manning… well, I now care about who wins the Heisman just slightly more than I care about who wins Dancing With the Stars. Which means “Not Much”.
Still, the Heisman Trophy is probably the most recognized symbol in sports. To many it still represents the BEST. And to be honest, even with my perception of its diminished prestige, the Heisman discussions and excellence are still synonymous in my mind, and still holds my interest. It is who wins that bores me, not who is in the running.
Perhaps it is my longing for yesteryear – for a time I believed that the deserving player always wins the award – that I continue to hope that the voters will get it right. So to help them, just in case any voters stumble upon these posts, I will offer my opinions for 2007.
In order:
1. Darren McFadden – RB – Arkansas
2. Chase Daniel – QB – Missouri
3. Dennis Dixon – QB – Oregon
4. Tim Tebow – QB – Florida
5. Pat White – QB – West Virginia
6. Chris Long – DE – Virginia
7. Colt Brennan – QB – Hawaii
Note: The season is not over for some guys, so I may change my order. And frankly, they probably should not vote until after the bowls… but that’s another discussion.
Feel free to comment and caste your votes.

I would probably have both Tebow and McFaddin as one or two. They both played like men among boys this season. Have to admit though, Tebow has looked awesome the last few weeks.

I would have TEBOW all the way….the others had great years but Tebow is something else…Go Tebow for Heisman!!!
