When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

August 15, 2012

“When I look at the cross, I learn to say: ‘The Son of God loved me, and gave Himself for me’ (Galatians 2:20). I begin to believe with Paul that if God did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up to the cross for me, then He loves me so much He will always give me only what will bring me blessing (Romans 8:32).”

  1. David Says:

Except we do live in a fallen world and we do suffer the results of a world recked by sin.

Not to say, we don’t have the Blessings of God and that we do have His love & Grace always in all things.

Doesn’t mean we will not suffer loss or experience difficulty in this world.

David, While what you say is all true, I am not sure it in any way negates what Ferguson says. I read into his words that he understands that suffering will occur in this world. There would be no point in reminding oneself about God’s love if it were not. He would only assume love and have no reason to think about it. But in the face of suffering, and disappointment, in this fallen world, God’s love is our source of strength and endurance. Knowing God’s love prevails reminds him – and us – that even the suffering is being used to purify and strengthen us. In that sense, he brings blessing even in the midst of hardship. ~ WDG
